Make Them Do It
December 15, 2009
First, the public option was forced to martyr itself for the cause of health care reform, which has morphed into health insurance reform. Now, according to the New York Times, the Medicare buy-in for people aged 55 to 65 is about to walk into the flames, to appease the increasingly monster-like politician, Joe Lieberman.
If you wanted the public option, if you want the Medicare buy-in, which progressives know is the foot in the door to single-payer, go to Congress.org right now and contact your senators.
This is a clear case of FDR’s “Now go out and make me do it,” except that this time it’s the two people who stand for your state that need to hear what you want, not what Joe Lieberman (or, for that matter, Olympia Snowe) wants.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the senators’ offices were flooded with calls and emails by tomorrow morning? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could find out that we really do have a voice? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the health care reform bill really turned out to mean something?
Congress.org. Right now.
